Medieval Priory le Lot
Dare ! Yes, dare to delve into the history of this majestic and unique centuries-old site, listed as a Historic Monument. Built by the Canons Regular of Saint Augustine during the 12th, 13th and 15th centuries on one of the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela, this priory welcomed Louis IX and his mother, Blanche of Castille, in 1244.
After being damaged during the 100 Years' War, it was revitalised by Jean Castelnau de Calmont, bishop of Cahors, who took over the management of the priory in 1452. Its prosperity was once again halted in 1588 during the Wars of Religion, which raged so fiercely in these parts. It was the Jesuits who, from 1661 onwards, breathed new life into the town and restored its prosperity. Sold during the Revolution as national property, it was subsequently divided into several lots, and then abandoned in the 1960s. Bought back in 1974 after a fifteen-year holiday, it has been restored and occupied by its successive owners, the last of whom has taken infinite care of it for nearly 20 years.
This absolutely incomparable place is now just waiting for you. You who can complete the restoration, enjoy the magnificence of this haven of peace and, or, create an outstanding hospitality or events activity, all 5 kilometres from the famous Loc Dieu Abbey.
To all those who want to help make history: come on down! An opportunity like this only comes along once.
Full details of the listed areas (such as the 13th-century paintings in the chapter house) are available on request. The vast majority of the Priory is in excellent condition, and all the renovation work carried out to date has been carried out with the greatest care and respect for the site and in accordance with the construction techniques of the time.
