Honfleur (Normandy)

The mid – 19th century saw a sudden bloom of French seaside resorts; those in Normandy like Trouville-sur-Mer were no exception. Its historic neighbour, Honfleur, which dates back more than 1,000 years, became the favourite source of inspiration of the early Impressionist movement when the likes of Monet, Courbet and Jongkind lived and painted here. It was no other than the half – brother of Napoléon III, the Duke of Morny, who had the idea of adding another crown jewel to these 2 towns: Work began in 1860 and just 4 years later, Deauville saw the light of day. To this day, Honfleur, Trouville and Deauville are a haven of peace for those in search of idyllic surroundings just 1, 5 hours from Paris.
